When Bast Temple formed in 2000, there were no active Golden Dawn lodges present in Denver.
This was not always so. During the late 1980’s, four groups were practicing Golden Dawn ritual in the Denver metro area. Unfortunately, for those interested in studying and practicing ceremonial magic, by the mid-1990’s, all four groups fall into abeyance.
It was though one of these groups, a lodge called Hathoor Temple of the IIOGD, that VH Frater A. had been brought into a Hermetic version of the Golden Dawn and RR et AC (Roseae Rubae et Aureae Crucis). Upon the disbandment of Hathoor Temple, VH Frater A. went his separate way.
Over the next few years, VH Frater A. explored many spiritual paths, including Norse Heathenry, Shamanism, Thelema, before returning full circle to where he had begin, Wicca and Ceremonial Magic.
In 1997, VH Frater A. started to advise a few occult students he knew. In 1998, this involvement led to the formulation of a esoteric study group EOEW. Over the next couple of years, this group would be the seedbed from which several of Bast Temple’s courses would develop from.
Unfortunately, the EOEW would prove to be less than a success on the organizational and practical magic ends, and VH Frater A. would unconsciously seek out another group. He was not the only member of the EOEW who desired a group more involved with practical magic.
One of the groups that a couple of members of the EOEW looked at was the Thelemic Golden Dawn. It was due to two of the members of the EOEW attending classes given by the Head of the Thelemic Golden Dawn, David Cherubim, that the idea of reviving a Hermetic version of Golden Dawn in Denver came about.
VH Frater A. had up to this point been quiet about his involvement with Hathoor Temple. When it disbanded he had been a freshly minted Adept Minor, though he held a higher Administrative Grade from that lodge so that he could fulfill certain officer’s duties that had been required of him.
As the public classes of the Thelemic Golden Dawn progressed, some of the members of the EOEW started to ask why they could not study Golden Dawn, in particular the Hermetic version of it. VH Frater A. pointed out that the EOEW was not set up for that type of work and nothing less than a full-fledged lodge could do justice to the system.
Catching onto the fact that VH Frater A. had experience in the Hermetic version of the Golden Dawn system, the interested members of the EOEW petitioned him to create a new lodge.
So in 2000, Bast Temple was formed, bringing Golden Dawn back to Denver.
